Nevertheless, this is a very good commentary. Realizing that many of the documents are from the late first and early second centuries allows us to glimpse developments in early Christianity in its third and fourth generations. In Second Enoch there is the picture of a river in Paradise, which issues in the third heaven, which flows from beneath the tree of life, and which divides into four streams of honey, milk, wine, and oil (2 Enoch 8: 5).

In the meantime he has written several books which have had a wide circulation: The Vision of the Ages, Commentary on John, The People's New Testament, in two octavo volumes, and the successive volumes of the Christian Lesson Commentary, from 1886 to the present time. In addition, a precious few do stand out as continuing the spirit of the former days.

Apostles in particular have certain qualifications that no one today can meet. It will come because she was blood guilty. "Woe to the bloody city!" said Ezekiel of Tyre (Eze.24:6). Sinclair Ferguson, Let's Study Philippians (Banner of Truth). Members of the churches of Christ believe the Old Testament is profitable for study and learning. Luke, on the other hand, working with the same two assumptions, contrived to have Mary and Joseph live in Nazareth but to be in Bethlehem for the census when the time came for Jesus to be born.

Osborne cuts through the confusion and offers a clear exposition of the book, explaining what it meant in its first-century setting and what it means today. Evil has in it a divisive power. (iii) In Rev. 17:12-13 we read of the ten kings making common purpose with the beast; and in Rev. 17:17 we read that God put this into their hearts that his purposes might be carried out and his words fulfilled. This is closely parallel to the fact that of all peoples in the empire the Jews alone were exempt from military service, because of their strict observance of food laws and their absolute observance of the Sabbath. So the people appealed to God to help them. v38 Because of all these things, we are making an agreement that nobody can change. We are writing down this agreement. Most *Jews who returned to *Judah were living in the villages. Highly recommended for their careful exegesis, conservative theological stance, and practical application.

There are also numerous Greek New Testaments, but one should probably buy either the one by United Bible Societies (Fourth Edition or Third Edition (corrected)) or the one by Nestle/Aland (preferably the 26th Edition or later). These are doubly explained. (a) In Rev. 17:9 the seven heads are seven hills. This has clearly some kind of connection with the old myth of the dragon of chaos who was the enemy of God. (c) In Rev. 13 there is the picture of the beast with the seven heads and the ten horns, which comes from the sea, and the other beast with the two horns, which comes from the land.

This upcoming commentary should be a great source and aid for digging into the Greek of John's gospel. The authors included in this two volume set are: It is in these two verses, 5&6, that the three great terms “faith…hope… and love” appear together (Expositors, 489) Paul uses the marathon metaphor he’s so fond of (he uses it also in Romans 9, 1 Corinthians 9, and Galatians 2) Paul has made clear who the spiritual enemy is, and as such his question of “who cut in on you” is rhetorical.

Volume Three is a further in depth study of the Gospel of John. But he did not want his enemies to know his plans. They probably stayed in this room when they came to Jerusalem to serve. The Temple (ii. 21), the manna (vi. 32-59), the water libation on Sukkot (vii. 37), the light of Ḥanukkah (viii. 12, x. 22), the vine (xv. 1-17), "the way" (xiv. 6)—all these are turned into symbols of the Christ. Paul, but it received a strong impulse from the writings of Alexandrian Jews, especially of Philo. That was the command of David, the man of God. v25 Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon and Akkub guarded the gates. This was because Tobiah was married to Shecaniahs daughter.
