All instruments have been recorded individually avoiding any crosstalk. The multi-instrumentalist Garvin Bushell (1902-1991) played the oboe in jazz bands as early as 1924 and used the instrument throughout his career, eventually recording with John Coltrane in 1961. I expect that most of us have played a note by blowing over the top of a bottle. After such success with the clarinets in previous works, it is surprising that Mozart omitted them in K.551, unless it were written with a specific commission in mind.

Founded in 1888 in Boston, Massachusetts, William S. I take care in making my reeds to insure they play well when wet. Stravinsky wrote it for the opening ceremonies of the newly built New York State Theater Premiered 1965-4-19 in Chicago. Some present-day jazz groups influenced by classical music, such as the Maria Schneider Orchestra, feature the oboe. Howarths in general have been on the rise in the US for some time now, so I was only a little surprised when, taking a couple of my instrument-shopping students around at the 2016 IDRS conference in Columbus, Georgia, they both not only gravitated towards but nearly fell in love with a couple of Howarth S20Cs, even after comparing them to all of the other comparably priced oboes in the exhibit hall.
